Because of a conflict with a meeting of the Nassau Legislative Delegation to discuss matters relating to the Ocean, Highway and Port Authority, the Fernandina Beach Planning Advisory Board (PAB) Subcommittee on Hazardous Materials has changed its meeting date from January 13 to January 22. The meeting will be primarily organizational in nature and will begin at 3:30 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers, 204 Ash Street. Future meeting dates and times will be determined at this meeting.
At its December 10, 2014 meeting, the PAB unanimously voted to form a subcommittee on the text amendment application heard at that meeting. The text amendment, submitted by two citizens, requests that certain types of industrial facilities and associated hazardous materials be prohibited in zoning districts within the City. All PAB members indicated an interest in taking part in the subsequent meetings, as did Rayonier, RockTenn, Kinder Morgan, and the Chamber of Commerce. The subcommittee meetings will evaluate different aspects of the request including public safety, quality of life, legal issues, and general information about the proposed changes.
The public is invited and welcome to attend. The meeting will be noticed and recorded in accordance with Florida Sunshine Laws. It is anticipated that the subcommittee will meet several times before reconvening in a regular Planning Advisory Board meeting to readdress the proposed text amendment.
