In order to provide the best possible instruction for students in the school district, the Nassau County School Board in cooperation with the Nassau Teachers Association has designated early dismissal days for teacher planning purposes beginning in the 2014-15 school year. The early dismissal days will occur every Wednesday beginning on the first day of school, August 6, 2014, and will shorten the student school day by one hour each Wednesday.

Despite this shortening of one school day per week, the school district and individual schools have been careful to plan adequate instructional time as specified in State Board of Education Rule 6A-1.045111 and Section 1003.436, Florida Statutes, regarding the required number of hours of instruction for school funding purposes as well as for the awarding of high school credits.

The school district strongly believes that students will benefit from the greater collaboration among teachers that will be facilitated by the designated planning time, as well as from the additional time teachers will have to plan instruction individually. Parents, families, employers and child care providers have a unique opportunity to partner with the schools to support the development of quality, well-planned instruction for the students in the school district.
