South Course Greens Converting to Champion Bermuda Grass

BC - South8-4(FERNANDINA BEACH, FL) – Fernandina Beach Golf Club – managed by Billy Casper Golf, the largest owner-operator of golf courses, country clubs and resorts in the U.S. –
is scheduled to complete extensive renovations to the greens on its South course.

Champion Bermuda grass is replacing the current putting surfaces and will present
golfers with even smoother and more playable greens. Several bunkers on the South
Course are also receiving facelifts.

“This is the first major renovation to Fernandina Beach Golf Club since it opened in
1957,” says Josh O’Brien, General Manager of Fernandina Beach Golf Club. “The new
grass will rejuvenate the South Course’s greens and give our loyal golfers the
excellent conditions they deserve.”

“Bermuda grass is the perfect strand for this climate,” says Mike Stevens, Regional
Director of Agronomy for Billy Casper Golf. “Our maintenance team at Fernandina
Beach Golf Club is excited about the greens conversion and delivering pristine
conditions from tee to green.”

The Champion Bermuda renovation at Fernandina Beach is similar to the process that
will be used by Pinehurst Resort, host of the upcoming men’s and women’s U.S. Open
Championships.

Located in the second oldest city in the United States, Fernandina Beach offers 27
distinctive holes consisting of North, West and South nine-hole layouts of varied
difficulty and design.

Opened in 1957, the par-35, 3,094-yard North nine is the oldest course on Amelia
Island. The West nine plays to 3,683 yards and is home to the signature, 607-yard,
par-5 No. 2. The South nine was the last to open in 1972 and is considered the most
scenic with its 3,316-yard course winding through native Florida foliage.

In addition to a fully-stocked pro shop, Fernandina Beach features a practice area
with a driving range and putting green. A comfortable dining room and lounge area
is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy time with friends and family.
