The City of Fernandina Beach has established qualifying dates for the November 4, 2014 City Commission general election.  Candidates interested in running for either the Group 2 or Group 3 seat must complete filing requirements between July 7 and August 8, 2014.  Charlie Corbett and Sarah Pelican, neither of whom to date has officially indicated whether he or she will seek reelection this fall, currently hold those seats.

Potential candidates may open campaign accounts, appoint campaign treasurers and collect petition signatures before the formal qualification period begins.   Questions regarding the qualification process may be directed to Fernandina Beach City Clerk Caroline Best, (904) 310-3115 or [email protected].  The City of Fernandina Beach has contracted with the Nassau County Supervisor of Elections to conduct the city election on November 4 and a run-off election if necessary on December 9, 2014.

This year city elections will coincide with county elections.  According to the Supervisor of Elections website, the following individuals have filed to run for the county elected positions below:

County Judge, Group 1 – Wesley Poole (incumbent); County Commissioner, District 2 – Mike Boyle and Stephen W. Kelley (incumbent); County Commissioner, District 4 – Barry V. Holloway (incumbent) and George V. Spicer; School Board Member, District 1 – Donna Martin (incumbent); School Board Member, District 3 – Jamie Deonas and Amanda L. Young (incumbent); School Board Member, District 5 – Kathy Knight Burns (incumbent); Ocean Highway and Port Authority Member, District 3 – Adam D. Salzburg; Ocean Highway and Port Authority Member, District 4 – Carrol E. Franklin (incumbent).

City elections are non-partisan, as are Nassau County School Board races.  Other county races are partisan and may require primary elections.  To date, all candidates in partisan races have filed to run as Republicans.  The Primary Election date for Federal, State and Local elections is August 26, 2014.

Consult the Nassau County Supervisor of Elections website (www.votenassau.com) for the latest election information.
