Library Parking 2
More parking spaces west of the Fernandina Branch Library will be available as construction moves forward.

Dawn Bostwick library director for the Nassau County Library reports as construction activity begins on the long sought after addition and enhancements to the Fernandina library a lot of positive comments are coming from patrons and supporters pleased to see signs of progress. The first sign of activity was a fence placed around the construction site.

Although the fenced area temporarily eliminates about 40 parking places, Bostwick says more parking spaces will be available as construction moves forward. During the height of construction activity, we can expect to see construction workers on site 6 – 7 days a week, says Bostwick.  A large portion of the fenced in area is to the used as a staging area for construction material.

The new 7,500 square foot addition located north of the current library that will eliminate four parking places will be the first phase of the project followed by renovations to the current library.  Once completed, the new and enhanced library will be 13,500 square feet.  According to City Manager Joe Gerrity, construction will be completed within one year.

Ground breaking ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday, February 27 at 4:00 p.m.  For further information or to donate to the capital campaign  visit http://fernandinafol.org/
