Please join us on Thursday, February 20th, at 4:00 p.m. for a short ceremony to officially open the new boardwalk. If you have any questions, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (904) 310-3350.

The City of Fernandina Beach recently completed the installation of a new boardwalk at Main Beach Park. The $171,000 project was funded in part ($148,000) by proceeds from the 2001 General Obligation Bond. Gillette and Associates provided the engineering and BNC Inc. of Middleburg, FL built the structure.

The new boardwalk replaced the old wooden path with a concrete sidewalk and 300 feet of raised wooden boardwalk with two (2) accessible beach access points. The project also included “turtle friendly” lighting. Two (2) pavilions (sizes: 20×20 and 15×25) were built for public enjoyment. These pavilions may also be rented for private use by contacting the Parks and Recreation Department. Additionally, the City Maintenance Department replaced the roofs of all the existing picnic shelters and renovated one (1) existing pavilion.
