On December 12, the Friends of the Library met its first obligation under the terms of an agreement with the City of Fernandina Beach and delivered a $400,000 check for its share of construction costs for the Fernandina Library.  In another step forward, City Manager Joe Gerrity signed a construction contract to begin the expansion and renovation of the existing Fernandina Beach branch library.  Construction costs in addition to architectural and design fees are estimated to be 1.6 million dollars.

So far the Friends of the Library have successfully raised over half of their 1.2 million dollar goal.   In addition to construction costs, fundraising efforts will contribute to collections’ upgrades, refurbished and new furniture, an automated self check out option and the addition of a technology center with additional funding efforts.
