Ronee Malama

Fernandina Beach Police Department Press Release

Submitted by Mark Foxworth, Deputy Chief

Earlier this year, Fernandina Beach Police Detectives investigated a theft from the Nassau County Branch of the State Health Department. A suspect, Ronee Malama of Yulee was identified in that case and subsequently arrested. Further investigation into Malama’s activities found that she had been given a position of authority within the Amelia Island Youth Soccer League. In checking with the president of the Soccer League it was determined that there had been a series of irregularities relating to the League’s finances. Once this was determined, detectives reviewed well over 1,000 pages of bank records and business records.

After several weeks of assembling evidence, detectives were able to determine that the suspect had embezzled funds over a two year period of approximately $60,000.00. With this evidence an arrest warrant was obtained and on November 22, Malama was taken into custody. She is currently being held in the Nassau County Jail with a bond amount of $75,002.00.

Great work by the FBPD as I know this had to have taken hundreds of hours of investigation and research. The victims are the youth served by this fine organization so hope there will be some level of restitution.
