Despite concerns voiced from County Manager Ted Selby, and Budget Director Shanea Jones, the Nassau County Commission voted 5 – 0 to avoid another year of tax increases.  According to Jim Shoettler in a Florida Times Union article “Nassau County Commission approves new budget, reserves further depleted,” Jones warned commissioners, “This continued practice [depleting reserves] is unsustainable. You can’t continue to spend more than you bring in.”

During the budget process, the commission gave into citizens’ concerns, and rejected a fire tax that would have helped close the budget gap. (Click here for previous story.) Commissioners are warning taxpayers to prepare for a big tax increase next year.
