Mayor Sarah Pelican kicked off the Fernandina Beach City Commission’s (FBCC) final regular meeting of FY 2012-13 with two presentations.

Deputy City Manager Marshall McCrary and Community Development Director Adrienne Burke accepted a proclamation from Mayor Pelican designating September 15 – October 15, 2013 as Flood Awareness month.  Citing the city’s experience this time of year with heavy rains and periodic flooding, the mayor encouraged citizens and businesses to increase their knowledge of various means to protect themselves from the problems associated with high water.

Representatives of various groups participating locally in the International Coastal Cleanup Day activities were on hand to receive the proclamation from Mayor Pelican that encouraged all residents, visitors and businesses to join in efforts to clean up local beaches and waterways on September 21 and throughout the year.  Local environmental activist Len Kreger accepted the proclamation on behalf of the wide variety of organizations spearheading the cleanup, including Wild Amelia, Keep Nassau Beautiful and the Turtle Watch.
