The 2nd Annual Ben Byrns Runway Rally at the Amelia Island Airport featured several hundred runners of all ages who participated in the 5K and 1 mile children’s fun run. In addition to the running, each young person was offered a free airplane ride by the local pilot club at the airport. As well, Senator Aaron Bean announced the race results and presided over a live auction to benefit the foundation.
The event is in memory of Ken and Laurie Byrns son who passed away last year from an accidental overdose of pain medication. Ben was an avid surfer, aircraft enthusiast, and loved animals. The Ben Byrns Foundation is reaching out to young people of all ages in order to help them make wise life choices. To that end all proceeds are being given to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Nassau County and the Nassau Humane Society.
Many thanks to the many volunteers who made the event a huge success.
