Mary Mercer, City Clerk for the City of Fernandina Beach, tendered her resignation as of January 4, 2013.  Mercer, served the city for 17 ½ years, approximately 8 of those years as city clerk. She trained under former clerk, Vicki Cannon who is now serving as Supervisor of Elections for Nassau County.

Mercer will be joining the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office heading up records management and public records for incoming Sheriff Bill Leeper.  The position is currently held by Elizabeth Seagraves, wife of current Sheriff Tommy Seagraves.

“This was not an easy decision to make on my part,” says Mercer.  “The past 17 1/2 years have been very rewarding.  I’ve enjoyed working for the City and leading a very successful team dedicated to providing exceptional service to the citizens of the City of Fernandina Beach, City staff, and anyone requiring assistance from the office of the City Clerk.”

Mercer further states her new position allows her “the chance  to use my record management and public record knowledge to help bring another County government office foward.”
