The Amelia Island Tourist Development Council (AITDC) has announced results of the 2011/2012 Fiscal Year Impact Report for the destination. According to figures released by the AITDC, nearly 460,000 overnight guests visited the destination from October 2011 through September 2012, which is a 6.4 percent increase over the same period last year. The visitor impact on the local economy reached more than $360 million, an 8.7 percent increase from the previous fiscal year.
“We’re very happy with these numbers, to say the least,” said Gil Langley, Managing Director of the AITDC. “Even with two of our major resorts undergoing renovations and a weakened economy, Amelia Island’s tourism industry continued to grow.”
Conducted by Research Data Services, Inc., the study shows that Atlanta remains the number one source of overnight guests, followed by Jacksonville and Orlando. It also shows an increase of 51.9 percent in foreign markets. The average length of stay was 4.3 days, with an average spending per travel party of $1,637.
Other notable results include an 8.6 percent increase in revenue per available room (RevPAR) and a 2.5 percent increase in average daily rate (ADR)
Langley said he anticipates slower growth in the tourism industry next fiscal year because the Omni Amelia Island Plantation will close temporarily for three and a half months of major renovations.
