City Manager Joe Gerrity informed city staff and news media that Fernandina Beach Fire Chief Daniel Hanes resigned his position effective October 30. His last day of work for the city will be Friday, October 19.
Hanes was well respected by fire rescue personnel, city staff, and commissioners for his leadership skills. According to Gerrity, Hanes accepted a position with the West Palm Beach Fire Department. Jason Higginbotham will again take on the position of interim Fire Chief.
