John Campbell Elwell, Candidate Group 5

What is your position on growth and economic development within the city of Fernandina Beach?

I am an ardent supporter of local business and economic development within the framework of our comprehensive plan. Arbitrarily imposed impact fees on local businesses need to be suspended for two years to foster growth. This will lead to business expansion and as a result, more jobs and more revenue for the economy. Thriving business, big or small, generates sales and franchise taxes for the city. This helps to reduce the revenue shortfall for the annual budget. Business growth just makes sense for the whole community.

Editor’s Note:  This is the sixth of seven questions in a series  posed to candidates for the Fernandina Beach City Commission.   The answers come to our readers unedited and in the candidates own words.  We rotate the order of candidates from week to week.  Ed Boner and incumbent Tim Poynter will seek Group 4, John Campbell Elwell and Pat K Gass will seek  Group 5.
