New on the retail scene is Pye’s Pawn, which opened September 1st,  at Jasmine Plaza ( 915 South 14th Street) in the previous Alley Cat Night Club space.  You may have noticed that owners, Kym and Albert Pye, have also moved their business, Pye’s Equipment from Eighth Street to the old Pogy Plant site.

Albert noticed that, when they moved the equipment business, they had enough extra equipment to open another shop, and the idea for the pawn shop was born.  He and Kym also felt that in this economy, a pawn shop would be helpful to members of the community, who were temporarily experiencing economic problems, but might have items to sell or be able to purchase items in the shop that were gently used or not brand new.

Having a pawn shop means customers bring in items to sell and get money for them;  items to pawn where they get money and a pawn ticket to retrieve the item in a certain amount of time; consignment items; and buy items in the shop.

The shop is just getting started and has an interesting array of items including musical equipment, even an upright Pye-ano (ha, ha), motorcycle helmets, an old propeller, guns, and a kayak.

When asked where the items were coming from, Kym admitted they have not gone “dumpster-diving” for any, but have watched “storage space” auctions, but so far, have not gone that route.  Yard sales are a lot easier so far.

Come on down and check out the shop.  It is open Tuesday through Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday.
