John Campbell Elwell, Candidate for City Commissioner, Group 5

Candidate for City Commission, Group 5

Question 1: How would you personally support improved communications?

“By this, I am assuming that you mean communication between the commission and the taxpaying  citizens of Fernandina Beach.  I believe that if we made the agenda items at the commission meetings more meaningful and clear, we would get more citizen participation.  Every meeting should include a clear, concise financial update as to actual income and expense versus budget by department. Every meeting should give meaningful updates to the public regarding any major community events, capital projects, fire & rescue/law enforcement items and any city enterprise fund news items. By dealing with real issues that impact the tax payers, there will be more participation and input from all our citizens.”

Editor’s Note:  Over the next 5 weeks, the Fernandina Observer will post answers to one of five questions submitted to candidates running for the Fernandina Beach City Commission.  The answers come to our readers unedited and in the candidates own words.  We will rotate the order of candidates from week to week.  Ed Boner and incumbent Tim Poynter will seek Group 4, John Campbell Elwell and Pat K Gass will seek Group 5.  Today’s order was determined by a roll of the dice.
