Jim B. Higginbotham, candidate for city commissioner, Group 5 is withdrawing his name from the upcoming city commission race. According to city clerk, Mary Mercer, the ballots have not been printed, so Higginbotham’s name will not appear on the November ballot.
Two candidate John Elwell, and Pat Gass are in the running for Group 5, and Ed Boner and Tim Poynter are running for Group 4. Higginbotham’s withdrawal in what was a three person race, will eliminate the possibility of a run off in December.
Higginbotham is stating his reasons for withdrawing indicated, “he is not sure one person can make a difference to change the direction or lack thereof of the current commission. I realize I do not have the desire to fight the battle to change the direction in which the commission is presently going.”
