Get ready for the third annual Great Southern Tailgate Cookoff coming up this weekend at Main Beach in Fernandina Beach.  45 professional and 20 hometown teams will compete for $20,00 in prizes in the chicken, ribs, brisket and pork butts categories.  Friday August 24th  hours are 3 p.m to 9 p.m. and Saturday, August 25th hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be food vendors, area bands starting Friday at 5:30 and Saturday at 1 p.m. and lots of fun. Admission is free.  If you are interested in tasting the barbeque competition, there is a tasting menu available for the people’s choice competition for a limited number of $10 tickets.

Free parking and shuttle  are  available at the Atlantic Elementary School lot and VIP Parking for $5 and shuttle are available at the Atlantic Recreation Center.The event is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.  It is sponsored by Arlington Toyota and other local organizations and proceeds will benefit the Gator Bowl Association.

The Little River Band will be entertaining at 7 p.m. Saturday, so bring your lawn chairs, no pets and no outside food or beverages and enjoy a great weekend event on Amelia Island, created by the Amelia Island Tourist Development Council and Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.  For more information call 904-277-0717 or go to www.gstailgatecookoff.com.
