Within 10 -12 days, the Historic Fernandina Beach Association,  the A.I.-Fernandina Beach – Yulee Chamber of Commerce, and involved citizens exceeded its goal to raise $13,800 to continue a long city tradition of fireworks on the 4th of July.  An ecstatic  president of the merchants’ association, Tom Hughes, announced the news the morning after another successful fundraising event.

“I have never been as proud to be a part of this wonderful community,” says Hughes.   “We were challenged to raise a significant amount of money in a short period of time and we did it!”

Excess funds raised will be held in escrow and used for the 2013 fireworks’ fund.   When asked if there are  plans to begin raising money for the 2013 firework displays, Hughes responded, “We will be discussing that at upcoming meetings. Right now we are just grateful for the support we have received from everyone in the community.”
