June 21, 2012

On June 11, 2012 graffiti vandalism was reported at the new Boys & Girls Club, currently under construction on Lime Street.

The subsequent police investigation revealed that the offenders entered an active and posted construction site during the weekend while workers were not present.  The subjects used spray paint to deface the property, primarily on the inside walls of the main building.  The cost of the repairs and clean up to the Boys and Girls Club was estimated at more than $300.00.

Fernandina Beach Police Detectives identified two juveniles believed to be involved in this incident.  The two boys were questioned and provided complete confession statements to detectives.  They were then processed for arrest and released to their respective parents/guardians.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of two male juveniles, fourteen and fifteen years of age, both currently residing in Fernandina Beach.  Both were charged with criminal mischief and the case was then turned over to the State Attorney’s Office and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
