A lone beach goer wades through the surf this morning on a breezy day with a brisk southerly wind. At the Fernandina Beach airport, sustained winds of 16 knots gusting to 24 knots were reported at 8 a.m.
Memorial Day dawned with cloudy skies and brisk winds at the beach, but only light rain at 8 a.m. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville predicts an 80 percent chance of rain for Fernandina Beach today, with rain chances of 60 to 70 percent through Tuesday night.
