Bits of the Bard is a Shakespearean sampler that includes sonnets and monologues from comedies and tragedies that include Romeo and Juliet, Merchant of Venice, Hamlet and Julius Caesar. And for those who enjoy a light hearted touch, the production is seasoned with songs based on Taming of the Shrew, a ballet from Midsummer Nights Dream, an Elizabethan version of Abbot and Costello, a Dick and Jane retelling of Hamlet plus an Elizabethan fitness routine performed to the bard’s most well known quotes. The show weaves Shakespeare’s original words together with biographical information and historical tidbits provided by the show’s narrator and producer, Lois Stewart.

Co directors Jan Cote-Merow and Alison Stewart have created a production that combines actors of all ages, from teens to seniors, from all parts of Nassau County. Since some actors are students in West Nassau High School and would be traveling a long distance, many rehearsals were held in Callahan.

There are veterans who’ve been on the stage for many years sharing the stage with younger performers who may be the next generation of great actors. The production is a patchwork quilt of talent, creativity, levels of experience, different ages , and people from different ends of Nassau County all pooling their efforts to produce this show.

Cast members include: Brianna Batrous, John Bausfield, Addie Bishop, Natalie Bloss, Jan Cote-Merow, Karl Fleckhammer, Kailin Frederich, Jeff Goldberg, Michelle Hamilton, Elayna Higginbotham, Linda Janca, Geoffrey King, Bill Mayo, Allen Melton, Sinda Nichols, Royal Academy of Dance, Justin Smith, Lois Stewart, Alison Stewart, Amelia Thompson, Rachel Tyler, Buffy Wells, Evalis Wong
