The Ocean Highway and Port Authority (OHPA) of Nassau County met on October 19, 2016 at the James Page Governmental Center in Yulee. Their first order of business was to thank local citizens and business representatives who had spent about 9 months reviewing their 1940’s-era charter and collecting citizen input at meetings held at various county locations.

Via Resolution 2016-3, OHPA officially accepted their report and thanked Committee members for the hours of work invested in the effort. Committee members included, Chair Jon Lasserre, Vice Chair Terry Powell, Secretary Frank Santry, Jack Bailey, Cari Cahill, Colin Campbell, Mike Cole, Hugh Graham, Dale Martin, Karen Shexnayder, and Michael Stokes.

OHPA Commissioners began their consideration of the report at a workshop on September 28, 2016. They have scheduled a follow up workshop to continue their review and finalize any recommended changes for presentation to State Senator Aaron Bean in December.

Because OHPA was created by Special Act of the Florida Legislature, any changes must receive legislative approval before they can be implemented.

The charter workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Yulee County Building on Pages Dairy Road in Yulee, FL. The public is welcome to attend.
