Fernandina Beach Proclamations and Board Appointments: October 18, 2016

PROCLAMATIONS

On behalf of the Fernandina Beach City Commission (FBCC), Mayor John A. Miller delivered the following proclamations at the October 18, 2016 Regular Meeting:

National Colonial Heritage Month

National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century President Ms. Dianne Parfitt and Vice President Georgia Murray accepted the Proclamation declaring October 2016 as National Colonial Heritage Month. In accepting the honor, Parfitt thanked the FBCC and recapped some of the history of the local chapter, one of 46 around the nation consisting of women over 18 years of age who are lineal descendants of an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the Original Colonies of the United States of America.

Parfitt announced that one of her organization’s first projects is a state historical marker for the historic Post Office and Customs House at 4th and Centre Streets in Fernandina Beach. The state has approved the marker which will be placed in front of the building. She thanked city staff for their assistance on the project.

On behalf of the Chamber, Chamber Board Chair Don Stamets thanked the FBCC for recognizing the efforts of the organization to help local businesses. He acknowledged the leadership of Chamber President Regina Duncan.

Stamets announced that the Chamber will be adding another dimension to their role supporting small businesses by creating a “Starbucks-like” physical environment at their office to allow small business owners to use Chamber space both to work and to network.

CITY ADVISORY BOARD APPOINTMENTS

The FBCC unanimously approved the appointment of the following six high school students to the Fernandina Beach Youth Advisory Committee:
Shelby Bradley, Elizabeth Lai, Bethy Spillane, Donald Glenn Brown III, Eve Thomas, and John Sorensen (secretary/clerk). Vice Mayor Robin Lentz, the FBCC liaison to this committee, solicited commissioners for possible
assignments the committee might perform.

The FBCC also on a unanimous vote reappointed Mr. Pranab Das to a one-year term on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee.
