next-stop-chauncey“A new voice in Southern Fiction” is how a recent reviewer labeled Kay Dew Shostak’s debut novel, Next Stop, Chancey. The fourth book in the Chancey series, Chancey Jobs, just released on Sept. 19.

Chancey is a fictional town in the North Georgia Mountains. In the first book, Carolina Jessup discovers that looking in your teenage daughter’s purse is never a good idea. After all, it ends up with her leaving her beloved Atlanta suburbs and opening a Bed & Breakfast for railroad enthusiasts in a very small town. And Carolina hates small towns.

Kay grew up in the South and graduated from the University of Tennessee. She then joined her husband moving around the country as they raised their three children. Always a reader, being a writer was a dream she cultivated as a journalist and editor at a small town newspaper in northern Illinois. After moving to Marietta, Ga, Kay submitted several true life stories which appeared in a number of compilation books over the next ten years.

In 2011, she and her husband, Mike, moved to Fernandina Beach, Florida for Mike’s job. Since the move to Fernandina, Kay’s publishing career has blossomed. She dedicates her recently released book to the friends in Fernandina Beach who have encouraged her all along the way.

Seeing the familiar and loved from new perspectives led Kay to write about the absurd, the beautiful, and the funny in her South in both her fiction and non-fiction. She is currently working on the fifth in the Chancey series, and also releasing a novel set in a small Florida town in 2017. There’s talk of that also becoming a series.
