The Our Place Drop-In Center provides local residents with a place to come for mental health support services in a comfortable and home-like environment. Clients receive coun-seling services and participate in activities to improve their activities of daily living such as employment skills, socialization, managing their finances, and more. Starting Point has op-erated Drop-In Centers for more than 20 years and also offers a second location in Hilliard, FL. The centers are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The renovations included virtually gutting the inside of the home, then rebuilding, painting and furnishing it so that it is now compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act. Completed in June, the new facility has a larger kitchen, a new TV, new signs and fresh landscaping.

The Drop-In center is a central location for self-help, advocacy, education, and socialization for clients transitioning back into the community from assisted living. Clients are encouraged to participate in their own recovery by learning how to shop, clean, manage a check book, find transportation, and other skills. In addition, the group takes frequent trips to local recrea-tional activities. The Drop-In Centers are open to all mental health consumers. No admission or membership fee is charged.

Drop-In Center clients (or consumers) manage a business that splits and sells firewood. The business has been operating for more than 18 years and all the wood is donated by a local tree service.

Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare provides mental health and substance abuse treatment services to children, teens and adults in the Fernandina Beach, Yulee, Hilliard and Nassau County, FL region. Serving more than 2700 individuals each year, Starting Point is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency. For more information or to make a donation, visit www.spbh.org
