August Election Night - Group Petree Craw, Drew, Burns, big 3,-horz

The Fernandina Observer asked candidates in major races who were victorious in the August 30 primary to send a quote to share with our readers. Whether winners or losers, we thank to all those who took on the challenge to run for public office.

John Crawford, Nassau County Clerk of Courts

Editor’s Note: We have not heard from Mr. Crawford at this time.

Dr. Kathy Knight Burns, Candidate for Nassau County School Superintendent.

“I am excited and very grateful. This is truly a David and Goliath story. From the beginning we were out-raised, but never outworked. For the past 18 months we have had the very best grassroots campaign, with hundreds of dedicated volunteers who never stopped! There are so many people to thank for today – my family, and so many friends, both old and new! Thank you Nassau County for placing your vote of confidence and trust in me. I look forward to the days ahead. We’re moving forward to the November election. Working together, we will take the Nassau County School District to the next level of excellence.”

Editor’s Note: Burns will face Cheryl Reynolds James, libertarian candidate in November.

John Drew:

“I am overwhelmed with humility and joy. I would like to give credit directly where it is due. That 91% is the approval rate that voters awarded the collective job performance of the entire team of employees at the Tax Collector’s Office!

I would like to thank the 91% of those voters who have continued to put their trust in me!”

Editor’s Note: Drew will be on the ballot in November. His opposition is John L. McDowell, a write in candidate.

Danny Leeper, BOCC, Dist 1

“I am humbled by the overwhelming support from the voters of Nassau County. I consider this an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Nassau County for next four years. I am optimistic for our county’s future and I look forward to great things in coming years.
I would like to thank my friends and family and all of the volunteers who worked tirelessly in my campaign.”

Pat Edwards, BOCC, Dist 2:

“I am humbled by all who voted to return me to office for my final term. Your confidence rejuvenates and strengthens my resolve to push Nassau County forward, thank you!”

“A special thanks to those who carried my banner during this election. To my wife Norraine, always my best friend. The special folks from Local 3101 who continued to meet me on dark street corners at daylight to hold signs day after day and provide support. Scottie Murray my campaign treasurer and grounding rod. My friends and family who never waver in their support and love! And a special Thank You to TEAM MOM!”

Justin Taylor, BOCC, Dist 5:

“I am truly grateful for the support we received and honored to have been elected to serve the community.
There are many challenges ahead. I look forward to working with all of the residents as well as the elected officials to move Nassau County forward in the right direction.”

Jonathan Petree, Nassau Cty School Board, Dist 5

“I am humbled and honored by the outpouring of support from the wonderful people of Nassau County! I look forward to serving and representing the families of Nassau County with honesty and integrity.”
