A view of Lot 10 in the Ocean Breeze Subdivision after seven trees were removed, one of which was a preservation tree.

Peter King, planning director for Nassau County confirmed that a tree designated as a “preservation tree” was cut down as crews were clearing a residential lot in the Ocean Breeze subdivision located off of South 14th Street in the unincorporated area of the county. According to King, the responsible party is subject to a maximum fine of $5,000 and other action including replanting.

A member of the Amelia Island Tree Conservancy was informed that the county Code Enforcement Board will take up the matter on June 14.
