Chief James T. Hurley

The Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA) is pleased to announce the addition of Fernandina Beach Police Chief James T. Hurley to its Executive Board. Chief Hurley began his tenure in May. Chief Hurley has more than 35 years in law enforcement, beginning his career as a patrol officer in Fort Lauderdale. While with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, he advanced through the ranks, reaching the level of Assistant Chief of the Investigative Bureau before taking over as Fernandina Beach Police Chief in 2006.

In his 10 years with the Fernandina Beach Police Department, Chief Hurley has established a strong relationship with residents and within the community as well as fostering valuable partnerships with other law enforcement agencies both in Nassau County and throughout Northeast Florida. His expertise in the areas home invasion and property crime lead him to write Florida’s Home Invasion Robbery Statute and he has published several articles in the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin and Police Magazine. “We are very fortunate to have Chief Hurley join the NCCOA Executive Board, said NCCOA Executive Director Janice Ancrum. His knowledge, experience and commitment will undoubtedly benefit the NCCOA and we welcome his guidance and leadership.”
