Callahan, Florida. Carlos Slay, Callahan native and local business owner has announced his campaign to seek the Republican nomination to the office of Nassau County Tax Collector.

“Americans are frustrated with the status quo and have made it clear that this is a time in our history to embrace change. I am running for the Office of Nassau County Tax Collector because voters need choices, new ideas and fresh perspectives allow us to refocus on the citizens and their priorities.

“It is important that the citizens of Nassau County have some real choices in 2016 and I believe I will offer an opportunity for voters to find a public servant that will be completely focused on their needs, will work a full time schedule and will be 100% transparent and ethical in how the business of the Tax Collector is managed.” Said Slay

“Now is a time in America and here in Nassau County where people seek fresh ideas and change that will help renew the commitment to public service. Too often I hear people complain that the elected officials have become the “master” and the citizens lose their voice. Often these same public servants are more concerned with their powerful friends than the average citizen. The truth is that many of these elected officials have forgotten the taxpayers.” Said Slay

“For too long the special interests have maintained a strong hold in the offices of elected officials, now is a time for the citizens to take back these seats and restore these offices to the goal of public service and integrity. I believe now is a time of great change both in America and here in Nassau County. I believe we can do better and I will be committed to being a citizen servant if allowed to serve.” Said Slay

“I believe that our public servants should avoid all appearances and conflicts of interests that may arise in how they choose to conduct the affairs of their public office. We must insist there is a high standard for those that seek the high office of citizen servant. We need real problem solvers that set priorities and will provide real solutions.” Said Slay

I believe that too often our public officials lose touch with the citizens that elect them and start to view their office as a right or entitlement. The best way to ensure that our public servants remain focused on the needs of the people is to hold them accountable. Our election process is designed to allow taxpayers and voters a chance to examine the record, draw opinions about the performance and decide whether new leadership is needed and places in their hands control of these public offices.” Said Slay

“This election places control of this office into the hands of the voters, I know I will have to earn your trust and offer taxpayers and voters a clear alternative and genuine opportunity to choose a better option.” Said Slay

“I am humbled by the opportunity to offer myself as a candidate for this important office and will faithfully work to raise up the voices and interests of the citizens and ensure that I use this office to champion the needs and the voice of those that work hard and follow the rules.” Said Slay

“In the days ahead I will release a plan to make improvements to the Nassau County Tax Collector’s Office and will outline a clear set of fresh ideas and new approaches to the business of the Tax Collector. I am a fiscal and social conservative and gun owner, I will work hard to improve upon what is already in place and will work to use my voice to ensure that citizens have an advocate and voice to help them address the challenges they face in obtaining drivers licenses, concealed weapons permits, hunting and fishing licenses and issues related to their driving privileges.” Said Slay

“I believe that my principles, my faith and business experience will allow me to serve successfully as the next Tax Collector for Nassau County. I look forward to meeting with taxpayers and voters throughout the county to discuss their vision for Nassau County. Freedom is a precious right that is only held when citizens decide to stand up and take back control of their government. In 2016 I will offer the citizens of Nassau County the freedom to choose a new ideas and a fresh perspective. ” said Slay

“This is a time of great decision in America and here in Nassau County. We must decide where we want our nation and community to go. Now is a time when citizens all through the nation have risen up against the “status quo” and have called for new leaders at every level. American is a nation that is founded on principles and a thirst for freedom and public servants that will protect and defend the public trust. With your help we can reclaim our government both here at home and nationally. I believe in America and while many believe our best days are behind us I am optimistic that citizens can retake control of their government by exercising their freedom to decide at the ballot box.” said Slay

Carlos Slay is married to his wife Hope and together they have two children and a grand child. Carlos lives in Callahan where he works with a family business and is involved in local civic groups.
