On August 1, 2015, a road collapsed over a water main break damaged a 2015 Nissan Versa. Francis and Donna Lewis from Trenton, New Jersey were driving their rental car through the entrance to Amelia Landings off of Sadler Road when their rented vehicle began sinking.

According to the Fernandina Beach Police Report, as the responding officer arrived he heard someone screaming, “It is sinking!” An unknown male was able to get the two passengers out of the vehicle before “the passenger compartment went all the way into the water.”

There were no injuries reported. A1A Towing was called to the scene to remove the vehicle.
