Tesla Destination Charging now offered as new amenity for guests

Fairbanks House - Amelia Island, FloridaAmelia Island, Florida – April 22, 2015, Earth Day – Fairbanks House Bed and Breakfast has teamed up with Tesla Motors to provide an increasingly desirable amenity; Tesla Destination Charging.

Bill and Theresa Hamilton, owners of Fairbanks House since 1997, have made continuous strides to convert their inn to a model of engagement of environmentally-friendly practices without sacrificing the upscale nature of their award-winning bed and breakfast. The addition of the Tesla and universal charging stations is another important component in the inn’s green initiatives.

Fairbanks PlugWhile being the first on Amelia Island and in Northeast Florida, Fairbanks House joins a rapidly growing network of resorts in Tesla Destination Charging, including more than 160 other Select Registry properties throughout the U.S. This new program provides hotels, resorts, and restaurants around the world with charging equipment, and gives Tesla drivers the freedom to charge wherever they want to travel by replicating the charging convenience owners are accustomed to at home. (Fairbanks House has one 80A Tesla Wall Connector and one 40A universal connector; overnight guests charge for free.)

The Hamiltons’ efforts go well beyond the “reduce, reuse, recycle” habits implemented in their early years and now include reflective roofing, native landscape plants, recycled raised beds with organic herbs and vegetables for use at the inn, organic pest control, collection of room amenities for donation to Clean the World, and many other practices. Fairbanks House has achieved Trip Advisor’s top Platinum award in its Green Leaders program every year since the program’s inception in 2013. “The Tesla Destination Charging Program has allowed us to continue our commitment to the environment while offering the upscale guest amenities for which we are known. Our guests can now arrive in their electric vehicles, ride our complimentary bikes, eat from our organic gardens, and have a wonderful time while leaving a very small carbon footprint. That’s something in which we take a great deal of pride,” said Theresa Hamilton, who owns and operates Fairbanks House with her husband, Bill.

Tesla’s growing Supercharger network (now 400 stations along frequently-traveled highways) has inspired Model S owners to hit the road in increasing numbers. Owners can drive all day, charging for 30-40 minutes at Superchargers and then stop at night to stay at Fairbanks House, other quality-assured Select Registry properties, and other locations that have installed Tesla High Power Connectors. Tesla’s High Power Wall Connectors add 58 miles of range per hour, topping off Model S’s full 265 miles of range in just a few hours on a single charge.

Select Registry properties and other Tesla Destination Charging locations are hosted on Tesla’s interactive webpage and will soon be GPS located on Model S’ navigation through a free software update sent wirelessly to the car. In coming months, Tesla owners will be able to use the Model S 17” touch screen to easily plan trips and locate the property.

Photographs of the property and chargers are available upon request.
