Accident on South 8th Street results in serious injuries

During the early evening of October 21, 2014, near the intersection of South 8th and Centre Streets, Bridgett Harrell of Jacksonville was seriously injured after crossing South 8th street. According to the Fernandina Beach Police report, Harrell was a passenger in a vehicle headed north on South 8th Street. Harrell exited the vehicle positioned in the left turn lane and crossed 8th Street in an “illegal manner.” The commercial truck that hit Harrell was headed south on 8th Street at the time of the accident.

After being hit, Harrell was unresponsive, not breathing, and had no pulse until a witness began CPR. She was life flighted to Shands Hospital in Jacksonville.

Harrell was found to be at fault.

Editor’s Note:  The police report received by the Fernandina Observer noted that the victim was  born November , 21, 1994.  An individual on the scene questioned the age, so we have omitted it from our report.
