Former Fernandina Beach Mayor Arlene Filkoff won top prize in the “Island Tales Storytelling Slam” with her story “What I Learned as a City Commissioner” September 19 at St. Peters Church. She and four other outstanding local storytellers competed in the sold-out fundraiser sponsored by Friends of the Library (FOL) with support from the Florida Humanities Council and Amelia Island Museum of History. As part of her prize, Filkoff will name a piece of furniture in the expanded, renovated Fernandina Beach Library opening next spring.

I wish I could have been there . Arlene is always great. Should we also thank the sponsors and the other “story tellers” for their efforts. I am sure it was a worthy cause and hopefully it will be repeated in the future.
