DAR - Constitution WeekConstitution Week is commemorated each year from September 17th through the 23rd. This year, “We, the people” celebrate the 59th anniversary of that Constitution Week law, the 227th anniversary of the signing of our Constitution, and the 223rd anniversary of the Bill of Rights.

In 1955, the Daughters of the American Revolution adopted a resolution for
observance of Constitution Week and felt so strongly about the importance of this
document and educating the public on the merits of the US Constitution that they
petitioned Congress that year to establish a national observance of Constitution
Week. The resolution was adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into Public Law
#915 on August 2, 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

DAR - LogoLocally, the Amelia Island Chapter of the DAR promotes Constitution Week by
providing county-wide schools, and libraries with posters and educating the public about America’s most important document. Members of the chapter also attend Naturalization Ceremonies at the Federal Courthouse in Jacksonville, providing each new American Citizen with a Flag Pin and a booklet on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. On September 2nd, Mayor Ed Boner presented Chapter Regent Marie Santry with a Constitution Week Proclamation.

Our nation’s forefathers penned in ink this document, and many spilled their blood,
lost their fortunes, and even gave their lives to ensure the right to
self-government based on this document. The Chapter encourages the community to
proudly fly the American Flag and review the Constitution and Bill of Rights during
this Constitution Week.
