South Fletcher Avenue Fire Monday, July 28

At 7:05 pm on Monday, July 28, 2014, the Fernandina Beach Fire Department responded to a 3-story single-family residential structure fire at 3655 South Fletcher Avenue. The initial report from Nassau County 911 Dispatch, advised heavy smoke on the first floor and that all occupants were out of the structure.

Fire TruckAt 7:07 pm, units arrived on scene and observed smoke coming from the residence. As Firefighters prepared to enter the residence with hose lines, searching through the intense heat and smoke, they located the fire and within twelve minutes of arriving on scene the flames were extinguished. The fire was primarily contained to the area of origin on the first floor, with smoke damage to the rest of the home. With assistance provided by Nassau County Fire Rescue, it took eighteen Firefighters approximately ninety minutes to extinguish all hot spots, complete overhaul and ventilate the structure.

Fire damage is estimated to be several thousand dollars. After investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental resulting from a grease fire located in the kitchen. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported as a result of this fire.
