Candidate Mike Boyle
Nassau County Commission, District 2

In the past, joint planning meetings were held in an open forum between Nassau County and Fernandina Beach commissioners to address problems and clarify roles on important issues. Records from the City Clerk’s Office, indicate the last planning meeting was held 6/6/11. If elected, how would you support transparency and encourage a continuation of a joint planning process between the city and the county?

The fact that the two commissions have rarely met together during the last few years is either an good sign indicating there are few issues that need combined attention, or it is a bad sign suggesting there is little effort or interest on the part of the participants to work together on issues of common interest. There always seem to be an excess of “fires” that demand a commissioner’s attention (both city and county), and the need for “planning sessions” seems to get pushed back. If elected, I will make a commitment to reach out to individual city commissioners, meet informally and publically with them (one at a time), to identify those areas/issues which coordinated efforts would be the most effective course of action.

Boyle and Eugene Edward Alley are seeking office currently held by incumbent Commissioner Steve Kelley.
