Beginning July 22, 2014, the Fernandina Observer will post answers to four questions posed to candidates seeking election to the Nassau County Board of Commission. Since the Fernandina Observer’s major focus is the Fernandina Beach area our questions are directed toward issues of importance to the Fernandina Beach and island communities.

Nassau County Commission candidates Steve Kelley, District 2 and George Spicer, District 4 did not choose to respond to Fernandina Observer questions on issues affecting Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island residents. Neither candidate has indicated a reason for failure to respond.

Gene Alley, a write-in candidate for the District 2 seat whose name will not appear on the August 26 ballot has responded, in addition to District 2 challenger Mike Boyle and District 4 incumbent Barry Holloway.

We thank Gene Alley, Mike Boyle and Barry Holloway for their responses, which provide additional information for voters to consider in making their choices on the best candidates to serve as District 2 and District 4 Nassau County Commissioners. We regret that Steve Kelley and George Spicer have not also taken advantage of an opportunity to get their messages out to our readership.
