On May 19, avid cyclist Myron and Cathy Scott from Johns Creek, Georgia returned to Fernandina Beach to take part in yet another Cabot Creamery Community Bike Tour. As Cathy and Myron cycle from Jacksonville to New York City on the East Coast Greenway, they will join celebrations in various locations to recognize community organizations and volunteers. “If you have volunteers, health and wellness, you have a strong community,” says Cathy.

Accompanying the tour is the Cabot Farmers’ Gratitude Grill, a traveling kitchen that according to the tour website, “was conceived by the farm families who own Cabot, and used to thank volunteers and community service-based organizations, for the extraordinary work they do in supporting and sustaining their communities.”

Pikula along with other volunteers work to expand and enhance local trails and continue the Fernandina – St Marys link to the East Coast Greenway.

Myron, who traveled the Greenway during its early years, said he has seen “tremendous progress” as more trails are developed. Thirty percent of the Greenway route involves “off road” travel. Myron is so enthusiastic about the Greenway, he offered a $1000 matching gift challenge to support East Coast Greenway efforts.

Kevin McCarthy, of Amelia River Cruises, provided transportation to St Marys as the tour heads to Brunswick, Georgia, their next stop on its 1100 mile journey.
