Meet your Yulee neighbor

Delcimer
Linda Buehler

The mountain or lap dulcimer had its origins in Appalachia in the late 1800’s according to Wikipedia. Mostly heard as a parlor instrument, due to its soft sounds, it became more popular in the 1950’s with the revival of folk music.

Now, Linda Buehler has brought it to Yulee and met up with Florida native, Carolyn Welsch, to form the Yulee Dulcimers group, which meets at New Vision Congregational Church at 96072 Chester Road in Yulee on the second Saturday morning of each month from 10:30 to 12:30.Those interested in joining the group can just show up at one of the meetings. Bring your instrument and copies of a few songs to share.

Linda belonged to the Cincinnati Dulcimer Society with over 100 members and knows of a group in Fort Caroline, but would love to share her love of the instrument with others to play at nursing homes, schools and other venues. They play mostly Celtic and mountain music. She has already visited a Yulee Elementary music teacher and sees the schools as a great place to encourage interest in this instrument.

She and her husband moved here in 2013 to be near her daughter and son-in-law and their grandchildren. Soon they will be joined by her other grown child and she will be a very busy grandmother indeed while she and Carolyn work on expanding their dulcimer group.

What a great talent and I know the schools and nursing homes would really enjoy performances.
