Matt and Rachel Mueller new owners of Amelia Island Coffee

Matt and Rachel Mueller stood with former store owner Mark Brackill as the morning coffee crowd walked into Centre Street’s Amelia Island Coffee. “Meet the new owners,” said Brackill.

Matt an experienced barista having worked in Drew and the late Beth Barrett’s downtown coffee shop when he was 15 years old, quickly helped patrons while his wife Rachel spoke to the “regulars” and waited for vendors to arrive. “It is a dream come true,” says Matt who always wanted to own a coffee shop.

Both Matt and Rachel graduated from Fernandina Beach High School, lived and worked in Nashville, and when presented with an opportunity to purchase Amelia Island Coffee, they welcomed the chance. In addition to owning and managing a coffee shop, Matt is employed as a software developer for a Nashville company, and Rachel is the owner of a candle making business, Oil & Wax.

Proud to be Fernandina “locals,” the Muellers plan to seek merchants close to home to provide various food items. They took the first step by signing on local coffee roasters Gil and Barbara Johnston, owners of Nuanz Coffee Roasters & Tea Merchant. Beans are roasted one day and freshly brewed the next.

When asked if changes were in store, Matt says, “The spirit of this place will remain the same.” For now the Muellers “just want people to feel comfortable here.”

Amelia Island Coffee is located at 207 Centre Street in Fernandina’s historic downtown.

I worked for Mark and Linda for almost 5 years – what a wonderful 5 years it was! AIC was my first real job and I met some AMAZING people. The opportunity to work there and gain the relationships I made over the years is something I will always cherish.

Congratulations Matt and Rachel! I wish you both all the best!
