Politics can be a noble calling, but in the City of Fernandina Beach, only two new candidates are heeding the call. Mary Mercer, city clerk indicated Edward Boner is qualifying to run against incumbent Tim Poynter in Group 4. Pat Kelley Gass, plans to qualify for Group 5 the seat currently held by Commissioner Jeffrey Bunch. Bunch has not announced his intentions.
Although Thursday noon July 26 is the deadline to qualify via petitions, there is still time for others interested in running. Anyone considering seeking office must complete the necessary paperwork, and open a campaign account in order to qualify by August 10 at 5 o’clock.
